The Digivisio 2030 project steering group has prepared for the new period at the beginning of 2025. Vesa Saarikoski, President of JAMK University of Applied Sciences, and Jarmo Takala, Vice President of University of Tampere, were elected Chairs of the steering group.
The Digivisio 2030 project steering group consists of 10 representatives from various higher education institutions. The steering group steers the operating activities of the project and, together with experts from the project office, prepares decision proposals for the General Assembly, where 37 Finnish higher education institutions are represented.
Digivisio 2030 is a joint project of all Finnish higher education institutions. The programme aims to shape a future for learning that utilises opportunities offered by digitalisation and benefits higher education institutions, learners and society alike.
At the beginning of 2025, Vesa Saarikoski, President of JAMK University of Applied Sciences, was elected as the new chair of the steering group. Jarmo Takala, Vice President of University of Tampere, serves as the vice chair.
Aalto University President Ilkka Niemelä, chair of the project steering group 2021–2024, summarizes the results of the first stage:
”The project aims to connect the joint nation-wide digital service platform of higher education institutions with flexible learning. The development work has required the establishment of joint practices and processes in addition to practical changes in the higher education institutions.
The cooperation has had an excellent start. The new Opin.fi service, due for launch in April, is the first shared service for higher education institutions developed for the platform. In the first stage, it brings the open studies of Finnish higher education institutions into a single service.
Serving as chair in this unique joint higher education institutions’ programme has been a fascinating and rewarding experience. The next stage will be led by a new chair, to whom I wish all the best,” Niemelä says.
37 Finnish higher education institutions have signed the Digivisio 2030 programme participation agreement, and the project office was established in 2021.
