Three digital pedagogy training packages for higher education institutions – instructor training to help in customising packages

In May–June, higher education institutions will receive three digital pedagogy training packages at their disposal. Package themes are sense of community and interaction, assessment, and pedagogical scriptwriting. To make the use of these training packages as easy as possible for every institution, three instructor training sessions are organised to support the implementation of the packages.

These instructor training sessions are intended for teachers or staff members of support services working with digital pedagogy. After a session, the participants are able to organise the training in question in their own higher education institution or together with other institutions.

Each instructor training session covers the themes, pedagogical implementation, and customisation of a training package. Customisation may be needed in such a case where the institution uses a different learning environment.

Next instructor training sessions organised in the autumn

The first training package focuses on sense of community and interaction. After participating in this training session, the teachers and support service staff members are able to apply different forms of interaction, technologies, and techniques in digital environments. The instructor training session related to this package is currently ongoing and the registration is closed.

The second training package deals with assessment. The training session introduces matters such as legislation related to assessment, electronic exams, and how assessment supports learning. Teachers can improve their assessment skills in a digital environment by participating in this training session. The instructor training session related to the second theme is organised in August–October. Registration will be open from 12 May to 15 August 2023.

The third training package’s focus is on learning design, pedagogical scriptwriting, and guidance. The training session topics include pedagogical models, workspace accessibility, and how to engage students in development work. After participating in the training session, teachers know how to design student-oriented studies in digital environments. The third package-related instructor training session is carried out in October–November. Registration will be open from 12 May to 9 October 2023.

How to register

It is recommended that 1–3 participants from each higher education institution will participate in the instructor training sessions. For more information on the topic, contact your own institution’s change coordinator or operational contact person.

Participation in the instructor training sessions is in Finnish or English. The amount of work for the participant depends on how much knowledge they already have about the topic. For example, the instruction training session related to a sense of community lasts for a month and a half, and ideally a participant should reserve 2–4 hours per week for the training. The work includes watching videos, examining materials, teamwork, and personal reflections.

Read more about and register for instructor training sessions in the project’s Eduuni wiki (registration required).

Although some of the instructor training sessions will only take place in the autumn, higher education institutions will already have access to all three digital pedagogy training packages in May–June. The packages will be available in Finnish, Swedish, and English, and they can be downloaded from the project’s Eduuni wiki (registration required).

Digivisio’s partial implementers are also planning for new training sessions for the coming year 2024. These sessions deal with the themes of modularity, learning analytics and artificial intelligence, accessibility and inclusion, as well as new kinds of implementation models for training.
